Luxembourg Forum Experts Discuss in Brussels Major Nuclear Security and Disarmament Challenges
Focusing on the Situation with the INF Treaty in Europe and the U.S.-Russia Relations
The Supervisory Board of the International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe met in December 4-5, in Brussels.
The participants summed up the results of the activity of the International Luxembourg forum in 2018, and discussed the most acute issues of nuclear arms control and non-proliferation. The experts put forward their recommendations on coping the crisis of nuclear arms control and stepping off from security confrontation in Europe.
Renowned political leaders, scientists and experts on nuclear disarmament and international security from many countries, including Russia and the United States attended the meeting: William PERRY, Professor at Stanford University, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense; Des BROWNE, Vice Chairman of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, former UK Secretary of State for Defence, founder and a current member of the Top Level Group of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation; Roald SAGDEEV, Professor at the University of Maryland, Distinguished Director at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician; Viatcheslav KANTOR, President of the Luxembourg Forum; Vladimir LUKIN, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of Russia, former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States; Rolf EKEUS, Ambassador, former OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Chairman of the Governing Board at SIPRI (Sweden); Vladimir DVORKIN, Principal Researcher, Center for International Security, (IMEMO), former Director of the 4th Central Scientific Research Institute, Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General (retired); Alexey ARBATOV, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Luxembourg Forum, Head of the IMEMO Center for International Security, Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician, and other leading international experts on nuclear security, disarmament and non-proliferation.PROGRAM
